Jim Robinson isn't what you'd call the brightest bulb in the box. In addition to his tacit support of the Wing Nut Brigade's most virulent and least intellectual elements--including the pleasant gentleman who shot a guard at the Holocaust Museum and his support of the Truthers and Tea Party nonsense--he's decided now that more direct action is necessary.
While this seems somewhat entertaining, what makes it more so, is that even Little Green Footballs has realized that our beamish boy has flipped the rails.
Charles Johnson, since 9/11, has transformed his site from sports related and web related content, to discussing politics, especially in the light of Israeli policy, Islam, terrorism, and lately, of highlighting the idiocy that attaches itself to the Far Right's more ridiculous claims. It also recalls an earlier attempt to get another Million Man March that I commented on earlier this year.
Herein lies the rub: these are supposed Republicans.
I keep rolling that around my mouth, and it still leaves me with a bad taste. Republicans, who arose to preserve that very Republic, and our Constitution, are now calling for the dissolution of that very Constitution, and in open revolt against that same Republic. Never mind due process, never mind by vote, simply to draft resolution and roll down to Washington to rattle sabers against pick ups to demand change.
Never mind the effects.
Specifically, they dislike the idea of an income tax.
Never mind that the US income tax is actually lower than the tax burden on pretty much all of the West, and never mind that the demand for services across the board has risen dramatically.
Never mind that the income tax is levied directly to the citizen, without regard of population density or their state's share of the programs that the tax's fund. Oh, demon 16th Amendment, with the idea that taxes might be levied, and damn the results of the loss of programs across the board. They're mad as hell, and they're not going to take anymore! No more stoopid FDA or EPA always getting in peoples' way of selling substandard or even toxic chemicals, no more of that Nanny State insurance crutch that saps the peoples' will with safe food and water. No more defense contracts. No more of that meddling with interstate commerce with departments that oversee how businesses run.
Worse, apparently is the 17th Amendment, which allows for the election of Senators, and their appointment by the executive branch of their state--governors--in times of interim vacancy. Oh demon Governors, making sure that state's are represented in Congress equally. Damn them, damn them all to HELL!
This is the sort of Neo-Luddite thinking that not only undermines the process--and the GOP for housing these mouth breathing idiots that can't parse the consequences of what might happen if they were successful--but it undermines the very safety of the republic.
This is why Libertarians masquerading as Republicans, and supporting Republican candidates bothers me. This sort of Neo-Luddite, damn the torpedoes-let's-shackle-ourselves-as-some-good- old-fashioned-corporate-helots-and-call-it-"freedom" crowd deserves to be ridiculed in the strongest of senses, and it deserves it NOT to be ridiculed by the Left--but by the center Right, and even the rank and file of the GOP. As a party, we cannot cater to the mouth breathing crowd, and while I don't always agree with Charles Johnson, I applaud his efforts to expose these intellectual midgets with every fiber of my being.
Republicans need to have the cojones to oppose the elements in our party that are just plain dumb. We need to oppose idiots and these treasonous little vipers who haven't the wit to understand why we have a Federal government, and why the states are ill-equipped to handle these functions, that they want as "state's rights" simply to have, and to squander with the atavistic acquisitional greed of a monkey with its hand trapped in a jar.Not just these mouth breathers, but those who put religious belief over the Constitution, who put race over the national good, and who put their own profit over the national good.
And that these functionally retarded morons call their ring to arms patriotism brings shivers to my spine, not understanding how far from the national good that their very purpose is predicated on. I am glad that a few of mine understand this, and give them all the respect that they deserve: which is about as much as you'd reserve for a ring of sludge in an abandoned toilet declaring itself sovereign and inviolate...
